DIARY OF THE ORIGINATOR | HAMZA SELLMY
December 11, 2025 – January 10, 2026 | Bhar Lazrag
In Diary of the Originator, Hamza Sellmy constructs the fragmented narrative of Duper, a solitary figure navigating a large North African city. Duper moves through his days as one wanders through a labyrinth with no exit: repetitive gestures, social pressure, omnipresent consumption, and a solitude that seeps into the cracks of daily life.
Sellmy observes and dissects the ordinary with an almost painful lucidity. Through Duper, he gives shape to a silent struggle: the struggle of the human being against the weight of the modern world, the constant injunction to exist more, possess more, be more.
But Duper moves differently. His actions are simple, sometimes minimal, imbued with a fragility that becomes strength.
This project is as much a personal diary as an initiatory ritual. Each image, each fragment, records an attempt at resistance: resisting the devouring routine, the stretching loneliness, the noise of the outside world and, above all, the turmoil within.
It is a survival journal — a way of documenting the effort to remain human in a world that tends to dissolve the human.
With Diary of the Originator, Hamza Sellmy invites us into Duper’s mental landscape: a space made of dense silences, suspended moments, and colliding thoughts. It is a narrative where one does not seek grandeur, but where truth emerges in the smallest of things.
An introspective path where each day becomes a beginning, each gesture an initiation.
