FLESH+CARBON | KAIS DHIFI
December 8, 2022 - January 21, 2023 | Bhar Lazrag
In this exhibition, Flesh+Carbon, the artist cuts abstract shapes from metal sheets that are engraved with layered scenes where daydreams and mythological icons are translated into symbols.
The compositions are then assembled onto framed sculptures. The raw material, aluminum, is directly treated with artisanal techniques to create textures, reliefs, and depth, enhancing contrast and the play of light on the surface of the metal sculptures.
The artist depicts the transformative journey of an object becoming an archaeological artifact.
The juxtaposition of time, space, and artistic practice generates an imaginary world evoking an ancient aesthetic, told through countless tales and myths.
In Flesh+Carbon’s still lifes, symbolism and celestial abstraction illustrate the link between past, present, and future in a universal language that reveals hidden emotions and invites viewer interpretation.
Through his personal and rigorous approach, Kaïs employs symbols of the future on remnants of the past, thereby redefining the visual narrative of contemporary sculpture.
