On the edge of your eyesight, there is a place where the seen blends
into the strange and every word spoken echoes back stretched and slightly
altered. We stand at this threshold now.
There is an aesthetic language hidden in plain sight within the walls of Tunisia. It is a living visual heritage of paradoxes: elements are simultaneously overused/ undervalued, ornate/ordinary, natural/industrial, and modern/traditional. Functional doors lead nowhere while decorative lights illuminate the streets. Minimalist shapes create intricate and tangled forms. Buildings constructed with seemingly random codes are intuitively reproduced across the territory.
One cannot define a language of ambiguity; to converse, one must embrace this ambiguity itself. To speak with this dialect is to both enshrine and distort it, to uncover it and disguise it at once. This is 5km Away: the place in between, this amorphous instinct.
On the horizon of the always-crumbling and re-forming possibilities of Tunisian cultural influences, the lines merge between a fragmented legacy, an electric current, and a barely-distant future.
