AYMEN MBARKI

Born in 1983 in Tunis, Aymen Mbarki is a self-taught visual artist. He has worked as an artistic consultant in an audiovisual production company, storyboard artist for short films and advertisements, logo designer, and decorator and set designer.

The artist creates scenes and creatures that oscillate between the chimerical and the real. Indeed, black linework serves as the unifying element of his work: the line makes his space visible and even legible. Lines are arranged and hollowed out according to the different rhythms and movements they take. His specific drawing technique allows for a great variety of appearances, with graphic sensitivity taking flight in rigorous gestural forms. It is a pursuit of the most explicit, even the most performative, line. Between poetry, literature, Greek mythology, and theatrical tragedy, Mbarki’s works chart their own paths as well as the trajectory of the artist’s practice.
