AYMEN MBARKI (b.1983)
Born in Tunis in 1983, Aymen Mbarki is a self-taught visual artist. He has been an artistic advisor in an audiovisual production company, a storyboard artist for short films and commercials, a logo designer, and a decorator and set designer.
The artist proposes scenes and creatures that waver between chimera and reality. Indeed, the black line is the unifying element of his work: the stroke makes its space visible, even legible. The line arranges and hollows itself out according to the different rhythms and paces it takes. Indeed, his specific drawing technique allows for a wide variety of aspects and forms, whose graphic sensitivity takes flight in a rigorous gesturality. It is a search for the most explicit, or even the most performative, line. Between poetry, literature, Greek mythology, and theatrical tragedy, Mbarki's works trace their paths and that of the artist's practice.
