AKACHA (B.1984)
Mohamed Akacha is a Tunisian contemporary artist born in L'Ariana, in Greater Tunis, where he grew up in an environment whose narratives, colors, and contrasts durably shaped his imagination. Very early on, drawing imposed itself as a favorite language, becoming both a space for experimentation and a tool for observing reality, the precursors of an artistic practice deeply rooted in human experience.
Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts de Tunis, and then at the Accademia di Belle Arti di L'Aquila in Italy, Mohamed Akacha developed a singular visual language where abstraction, narrative figuration, and influences from urban culture meet in a fruitful tension. His work questions the dynamics of identity, exile, social inequalities, and contemporary fractures, articulating individual memory and collective consciousness within a visual language of great intensity.
An artistic residency in the United States, between 2016 and 2017, constituted a decisive turning point in his journey. This immersion fueled an openness to new aesthetic territories and gave his practice a renewed formal freedom, while consolidating a research where the pictorial gesture becomes the place for reflection on the mutations of the contemporary world.

Present on the international art scene for over a decade, he participates in numerous leading exhibitions and art fairs, among which Art Basel Miami, progressively affirming a singular position within the North African contemporary scene. Based between Tunis and Paris, he now pursues a constantly evolving practice, exploring new supports and endlessly renewing the modalities of his pictorial language.
His most recent solo exhibition, presented in 2025 in Paris at Sidi Blue, confirms the maturity of a body of work where the expressive force of the gesture, the chromatic density, and the symbolic power of the images compose a sensitive reflection on the social and political realities of our time. Oscillating between instinctive impulse and poetic construction, Mohamed Akacha's painting unfolds as a space of resistance, memory, and dialogue, where intimate experience meets universal issues.
