ABDESSLEM AYED (B.1979)
Born in 1979 in Tunis-Tunisia, Abdessalem Ayed, a Tunisian visual artist, lives and works between Gabes and Tunis.
He graduated from the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Tunis and holds a master's degree in visual arts with a specialization in sculpture.
Currently, a restorer of antique sculptures at the Musée National du Bardo. The artist has regularly participated in group exhibitions in Tunisia and abroad since 2008. He was awarded a prize in 2009-2010 for his work presented as part of the Printemps des Arts. Abdessalem Ayed also participated in the 2018 Dak'art biennale (L'heure rouge) and the CapeTown art fair in 2022.

He takes embroidery as a form of expression. His work is driven by the idea of the fragment and suturing.
His work questions the physical boundaries and invisible links that unite human beings to their history and memory, while proposing an innovative approach on various mediums, essentially the old carpet, the aim of which is to visually divert this heritage and distance it from any aesthetic judgment. Indeed, weaving, embroidery, and assemblage are primordial techniques in the elaboration of the artist's work.
