ABDESSLEM AYED

Born in 1979 in Tunis, Tunisia, Abdesslem Ayed is a Tunisian visual artist living and working between Gabes and Tunis. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts of Tunis and holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts, specializing in sculpture. He currently works as a restorer of antique sculptures at the National Bardo Museum. Since 2008, the artist has regularly participated in group shows in Tunisia and abroad. He was awarded in 2009-2010 for his work presented during the Spring of Arts festival. Abdesslem Ayed also participated in the Dak’Art Biennale 2018 (L'heure rouge) and the CapeTown Art Fair 2022.

He uses embroidery as a form of expression. His work is driven by the concepts of fragment and suture.

His practice questions physical boundaries and the invisible links connecting humans to their history and memory, proposing an innovative approach across various media, primarily old carpets, aiming to aesthetically divert this heritage from conventional judgment. Techniques such as weaving, embroidery, and assembly are essential in the development of his works.
