Le XXIe siècle sera-t-il africain? | Group Show
26 October 2019 - 14 December 2019 | Club House Gammarth
“Will the 21st Century Be African?” is a question that inspired the work of over twenty artists in this exhibition. The aim was not to provide answers, but to create artistic reflections that branch out from the question. This exhibition presents an experiential project, challenging and reconsidering Africa’s presence, influence, and role in the world, particularly through Art.
Far from a sterile, primitive representation celebrating familiar exoticism, contemporary African art addresses real issues—whether regarding its purpose, the conditions of its creation, or its global impact.
This art exhibition showcases works whose poïetic contemporaneity carries socio-political vision, ecological engagement, universal aesthetic considerations, identity representation, spiritual heritage, and plastic symbolism. Through painting, sculpture, and assemblage of raw and recycled materials, “Will the 21st Century Be African?” emphasizes the economic, social, and cultural responsibility of significant artistic practice emerging from a seriously vibrant Africa.
