WISSEM EL ABED (B.1977)
Trained at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Tunis, he obtained a doctorate in arts and art sciences at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He has been teaching since 2012 at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Sousse.
His work mixes drawing, installation, assemblage, and illustration. He develops a singular graphic universe, populated by deformed figures, diverted materials, and fragmented narratives. His approach questions the notions of otherness, displacement, erasure, and memory, in a visual language that is simultaneously critical, poetic, and accessible.
His projects have been presented notably at the Musée archéologique de Sousse (Alea jacta est.tn, 2021), at Elbirou Art Gallery (Dhahaba, 2022), and at Central Tunis (Moi, après le déluge, 2023). Winner of the Anhar: culture et climat program (2024), he is taking part in a cross-residency between Tunis and Montreal with the Galerie B-312.
