SELIM BEN CHEIKH (B.1979)
Selim Ben Cheikh is a Tunisian multidisciplinary artist.
A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts de Tunis, he obtained a master's degree in visual arts there in 2003, before continuing his studies at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where he earned in 2004 a Diplôme d'études approfondies (DEA) in aesthetics and art sciences.
His research, rooted in the socio-political context of Arab countries since 2011, nourishes a protean practice that has unfolded over several solo exhibitions in Tunis: Obliques (Galerie A-Gorgi, 2014), Ijtihad (Galerie Ghaya, 2017), Incertitudes (La Boîte, 2017), and more recently Dust in the Wind (Galerie Musk and Amber, October 2024).

He has participated in numerous artistic residencies in Tunisia as well as abroad (Belgium, France, Switzerland, Sweden). Since 2020, he has been exploring new mediums such as spray paint and pigments, orienting his research towards the concept of trace, line, and touch, and questioning the absence of the artist's body in the work.
Outside of Tunisia, his last solo exhibition (Horizontal, Vertical, Horizontal) was held in June 2023 at the All ArtNow gallery in Stockholm. He exhibits regularly between Tunisia and Europe. Among his recent group participations are Unhealed (Moderna Museet, Malmö, March-September 2024) and Fully Booked (Hôtel Nour Justinia, Sousse, July 2024). In October 2024, he was represented by the All ArtNow gallery at the Swab Art Fair in Barcelona.
