YESMINE BEN KHELIL

Born in 1986 in Tunis, Tunisia.
Lives and works between Paris and Tunis.

In her works on paper, Yesmine Ben Kehlil reappropriates images found on the internet, old photographs, books, or archival documents, integrating them with drawings previously created using felt pens, pencils, inks, and glitter. In J’ai tenu parole (2015), a series based on a propaganda document published by the Tunisian government in 1963, the artist weaves ironic connections between the past and present of her country. Through a play of layering, the drawings appear within the thickness of the book’s pages. In these poetic montages where yesterday’s images collide with today’s, the artist raises questions about the rewriting of history and the representation of reality in a world transformed into a flow of information.

Yesmine Ben Khelil graduated in Fine Arts and Art Sciences from Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne University. She participated in Réenchantements, the main exhibition of the 12th edition of the Dakar Biennale, Senegal (2016), as well as an exhibition at the Institut des Cultures d’Islam, Paris (2016).
